Tipps Fittest Superstars 2024 was officially launched in Brosnans bar in Cashel this week with Davy Fitzgerald on hand to meet and greet members of three clubs involved in the novel fundraising venture - Cashel King Cormacs along with Cashel Rugby Club and Cashel King Cormacs Camogie Club.
There was a huge turnout for the fundraising event based on 'Irelands Fittest Family' with clubs from across Tipperary ready to line out for a fun day with big prizes. It is the only such fundraiser taking place in Tipperary this year.
Cashel King Cormacs chairperson Sean O'Donoghue welcomed all to the launch event at Brosnans and on the night Davy Fitzgerald enjoyed the craic and banter where he was surrounded by Tipperary folk eager to get his take on the epic hurling game between Tipperary and Waterford as well as find out more about the exciting event set to take place in Cashel this June.
Waterford hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald said he was thrilled to be back in Cashel for the fundraiser launch: "We battled the weekend and that finished on Saturday night, so its back to other stuff after that. I always believe for 70 minutes you go to war and when its over, it is always over for me after that.
"Sport is sport. You shouldn't be holding grudges after that so I'm delighted to be here tonight for another event and we will drive on with this. I am really looking forward to Tipps Fittest Superstars taking place again in Cashel," Davy Fitzgerald said.
On the night former intercounty hurler Ryan O'Dwyer, who is the camogie coach with Cashel King Cormacs, said he was enjoying coaching and that the fundraiser was a huge event: "It is great to be back in Cashel where I am part of the camogie set up and the panel are so committed. We are busy preparing for the big games. There is a great buzz around the club and around this new fundraiser which will be a really good test for a lot of clubs across the county."
The chair of Cashel Camogie Club, Conal Bonner, said they were thrilled to be a part of this initiative. The All-Ireland hurling winner said the camogie club is growing each year: "The camogie club will be part of this fundraiser and we are making great strides at present," he said while also telling some great stories of when Tipperary played Clare in the 1990s when both Conal and Davy lined out for their respective counties.
Two years ago the first 'Tipps Fittest Superstars' fundraiser took place at Cashel Rugby Club and both the rugby club and King Cormacs will be part of the event again this year that takes place on Saturday June 15th at the rugby grounds in Spafield.
Reflecting on that successful event and the importance of this years event, Cashel rugby club president Pat O'Donoghue said that the fact that local Scoil Chormaic was involved and would benefit from the fundraiser was also a very positive aspect of it.
"The first fundraiser the King Cormacs and the rugby club did together was a boxing event and now we are really looking forward to the 15th of June for this years event as we invite people from near and far to come along and have a great family day out," Pat said.
Cashel King Cormacs Premier Intermediate hurling Manager TJ Connolly spoke of how proud everyone there was of Cashel and of how everyone would put their shoulder to the wheel to ensure the event is a big success. "It is great to have clubs in the town working together and it will be a fantastic day," he said.
It will be the first time ever that three local clubs will come together - Cashel King Cormacs GAA, Cashel King Cormacs Camogie Club and Cashel RFC - who will pool their energy's together to provide the local community and beyond with something to look forward to and indeed enjoy.
An official post on Facebook from Cashel King Cormacs said it would be a fantastic day out: "Teams of four will pit themselves into the deep end against a course something similar to what everyone is accustomed to on the RTEs Ireland's Fittest Family's.
"If this is your thing then get involved. Entry per team €600. Sponsorship cards are available from officers within all three clubs. You can also contact the events email address on tippsfittest@gmail.com.
"If testing yourself against Davy Fitz's obstacle course is not your thing then you are invited along for the social side of things, bring your family and friends. Make it a day out. There will be Full Bar facilities and catering available all day long with a DJ to get everyone dancing into the night."
