The Rebel Hearts are playing The West's Awake festival again this year
How quickly a year rolls by! It’s that time of year again as the parish of Clonoulty/Rossmore prepares to welcome music lovers from all over the country to the Dillion Quirke GAA grounds on Sunday, June 2.
Since 2019 this hugely popular festival has seen some of Irelands leading musicians take to the stage and this year is no different.
On June 2nd in Clonoulty the silage harvesters will take a well-deserved break, the club volunteers will regroup and give their all for their club and the sounds of magical music will echo all over this famous west Tipperary village.
JOHNNY BRADY
Johnny Brady from Randlestown in Antrim has one of the most distinctive voices in modern country music and is Known for his powerful vocal’s energetic performances and charismatic personality. Johnny has a unique sound and is constantly pushing the boundaries in a new generation of Irish country music artists. “I can’t be anybody other than myself”. Johnny explains.
“Wearing suits with rhinestones just isn’t me”.
Johnny has been touring extensively around Ireland and the UK over the past five years and has built up a reputation for having one of the finest bands on the Irish Country scene. Johnny is also famous for turning it up a notch drawing on his many pop and rock influences making him a man in demand on the festival circuit.
REBEL HEARTS
The only band to play all West Awake festivals the boys are as excited to play this year as any other year.
“It has been a wonderful year for us celebrating our 25 years” Paudie explains. “The West Awake is always one of the big ones for us in our calender”.
The Rebel hearts certainly play with their hearts on their sleeves. Live shows are bursting with pride passion and honesty. Formed in 1999 school friends Jamie and Paudie met with the Moycarkey brothers Tom and Paudie and the famous banjo player from Rossmore Liam Coen and the journey was mapped out. 25 years later with tours of Germany England Austraila and Ireland and numerous albums singles and a no 1 chart success the boys have no plans to slow down.
LORCAN KENNEDY
Lorcan Kennedy, a Clonoulty/Rossmore man to the core is a 14-year-old singer/songwriter whose influences include Justin Townes Earle, Zach Byran and Noah Kahan.
Lorcan was thrilled to open last years West Awake in his beloved home club grounds. Later that summer Lorcan would play at local music festivals and also made his debut singing his original song “Never Forget” on Tipp Fm with Fran Curry.
Lorcan’s two great loves are hurling and music so to again open up for this years West awake means everything to him. We wish Lorcan all the best on his musical journey.
