Tipperary athlete Sharlene Mawdsley will travel to Italy as part of a 43-strong Ireland team heading to compete in Rome for six days of competition in what will be billed as preparation for the Olympic Games in Paris in a few months.
Newport AC's Mawdsley has had an outstanding season this year, and she will get a chance to get to grips with her schedule for Paris as she will compete in the individual 400 meters, along with the ladies and mixed relay teams where the Ireland teams have realistic hopes of getting on the podium after terrific efforts at the recent World Relays.
Mawdsley will be first into action on Friday evening in the final of the mixed relay at around 9.20 pm where she, along with teammates Rhasidat Adeleke, Thomas Barr, and Chris O’Donnell, will be aiming to add to the bronze medal won at the World Relays last month.
The following morning will see the heats of the 400 metres (11.20 am) with the semi-finals on Sunday evening at around 7.05 pm, with the final scheduled for Monday at 8.50 pm.
The heats of the women’s 4x400m relay take place at around 10.15 am on Tuesday with the final set to be the penultimate event of the Championships on Tuesday evening around 9.40 pm.
