Ireland is just 11/10 to win three or more gold medals at this summer’s Olympic Games according to BoyleSports.
The bookmaker has reported a surge of betting support for Ireland to have at least a record equalling gold medal haul of three in Paris after a sensational six days at the European Athletics Championships. Ciara Mageean secured gold in the 1500m in Rome, as did the mixed 4x400m relay team with sprinting sensation Rhasidat Adeleke securing silver in the individual 400m.
With Ireland holding an unusually strong hand on the track ahead of this year’s Olympics, confidence is building that a record number of golds could be within reach with likely contenders across rowing, gymnastics, showjumping, eventing and boxing.
Kellie Harrington will lead the charge in the ring as she bids for back-to-back Olympic golds after victory in Tokyo in 2021, with Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy also looking to double their haul of gold after success in Japan.
Daniel Wiffen, who became Ireland’s first ever world champion swimmer is well-fancied to boost the Olympic medal haul as is pommel-horse world champion Rhys McClenaghan.
With Wiffen taking the swimming world by storm earlier this year when winning the 800m and 1500m freestyle at the Doha World Aquatics Championships, he is rated just 2/1 with BoyleSports to win the RTÉ Sports Personality of the Year with the first six athletes in the betting set to feature in Paris this summer.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:“After a fantastic performance on the track at the European Athletics Championships, confidence is really starting to build that this summer’s Olympics will be a golden one for Team Ireland.”
11/10 3 or more gold medals
