‘Tipperary’s Fittest Superstars’ earn their title after heroic effort in Cashel

Winners alright! Tipp’s Fittest Superstars - Mary Bourke, Stevie Flanagan, Darren Gayson and Adrian O’Dwyer - were fastest to complete the challenging obstacle course.

On Saturday last Cashel RFC hosted Tipp’s Fittest Superstars, a fundraiser produced by the combined efforts of Cashel King Cormacs GAA Club, Camogie Club and Cashel Rugby Club in association with Scoil Chormaic.

A huge crowd gathered for the event that was hugely successful and went on from early morning until dusk. Well over forty teams pitted themselves against the gruelling obstacle course designed by Waterford hurling manager and Irelands Fittest Family producer, Davy Fitzgerald.

The All-Ireland winning player and manager, along with his team, aided every single team to make sure that the contestants completed the course.

The weather picked up as the day went on and by the time the bright sunshine arrived the large crowd were able to enjoy the dog show which the children there loved the pony rides, bouncy castles and more. The atmosphere was electric as evening approached and the last teams still standing put on a show for  the crowds.

In the end the deserving winners of ‘Tipps Fittest Superstars 2024’, collected their sizable prize. Darren Gayson, Stephen Flanagan, Mary Bourke and Adrian O’Dwyer put in a heroic performance to claim the title after taking honours as well in 2022.

All day the Marquee at the venue was a hive of entertainment with trade stalls  busy along with a constant flow of people arriving at  Cashel RFC.

Afterwards, at the presentation, Davy Fitzgerald spoke of how great it was to see the clubs coming together and how there was strength in numbers.

During his time in Cashel he made time for everyone and even took time out to present camogie medals to the 1st and 2nd class girls in John the Baptist Girls school on Friday afternoon much to the delight of the students.

At the presentation of prizes at Tipp’s Fittest Superstars, Cashel Rugby Club president Pat O’Donoghue thanked Davy and spoke of the huge commitment from the GAA Club, Camogie Club and Rugby Club.

He said keeping people involved in and playing sport was of the utmost importance and praised all for working so well together to ensure Cashel has a thriving sporting community.

Conal Bonnar, Chair of the Camogie Club, spoke of how beneficial such events are to so many people and how vital the funds raised are.

Seanie O’Donoghue, Chair of Cashel King Cormacs GAA Club, said that fundraiser was “a huge success” and he thanked Davy Fitzgerald and his team as well as the competitors, volunteers and attendees for making the event so successful.

All three thanked the local sponsors that dug deep once again to ensure the event took place and ran so smoothly. It was the only such event in Tipperary this year and hopes are high that the event will take place in Cashel of the Kings yet again in future.
