“The game is about enjoying what you do, learning new skills and playing with your friends,” Davy Fitzgerald told the first and second class girls of St. John the Baptist Girls School in Cashel last Friday week.
The legendary GAA figure and presenter of Ireland’s Fittest Family was in the town ahead ‘Tipperary's Fittest Superstars’ which took place at the local rugby club.
The first and second class had spent the previous months practising their camogie skills weekly and there was great excitement when ‘Davy Fitz’ dropped in to chat with the groups.
Under the guidance of their teachers and GAA club coaches the girls worked on developing their skills.
It was a wonderful occasion as hurleys were signed, photographs were taken and medals were collected.
“Enjoy playing you sport,” Davy told the girls. “When I started playing I realised the game is there to be enjoyed. Listen to your coaches and practice. Listen to your teachers and be nice to each other. Spending time with your friends is always good, and I hope you continue to play and enjoy the game for years to come,” he said.
