Local Tipperary school celebrate tenth Green Flag with special ceremony

A flag-raising ceremony was recently held at St Joseph's Primary School to mark their tenth Green Flag status.

The theme on this occasion was Global Citizenship/Travel.

In attendance on the day was Parish Priest Fr Conor Hayes and representing An Taisce, Chiara Hanrahan, Travel Officer.

In order to achieve this accolade pupils undertook a variety of activities relating to the travel theme.

These included carrying out a walkability audit on two school routes, a no-idling campaign including a no-idling pledge signed by parents, scooter workshops and even performed a speed-gun survey on two busy approach roads to the school.

Chiara praised the children for all their hard work over the past two years, adding that ten flags was a remarkable achievement for the school and community.
