Local Link provides a vital service in Tipperary.
The motion was raised at this months Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District meeting that the Council would engage with Local Link Tipperary with a view to amending their 855 Bus Route from Tipperary Town to Cashel via Cahir to include an additional stop in Kilmoyler, Cahir.
“I suppose the motion speaks for itself,” Councillor Máirín McGrath, who raised the motion, said before pointing out that there were 65 different routes across the county.
Cllr McGrath said that this particular route goes “from Limerick Junction through Tipperary Town, Cahir and on to Cashel but I suppose the aim of Local Link is to connect rural communities as well and there is a big gap on the bus route between Bansha and Cahir,” she said.
The possibility of including a stop at Kilmoyler was important she said and stressed the need that the MD would, as a whole, would “direct the Local Link” and she pleaded for the support of members to see if the amendment could be made.
Cllr Andy Moloney said he would second the motion but he stressed that “I wouldn't hold me breath!”
He said he didn’t know what influence Tipperary County Council had.
“I have written to them on a couple of occasions,” Cllr Moloney continued before pausing and saying “I haven’t even gotten a reply!”
He lamented the changes of recent times and talking about the Kilmoyler area said “It used to be a very vibrant community out there,” as he recalled ‘The Silver Sands’ which was “one of the biggest cabaret places in the country” in its time.
“There is a need there to connect with rural Ireland. That is what these buses set out to do. There is a fine big footpath” he said and added that people could walk to the bus stop at Kilmoyler.
“I do think if there was at least one stop between Cahir and Bansha people could connect,” he said.
Cllr O’Heney also spoke in favour of the motion saying that there was a huge amount of people living in that area and a bus would be of huge benefit to them so he felt it was worth pursuing as well as it would ensure that people could do their shopping and their banking in Cahir.
Cllr Roger Kennedy said he too felt this was very important to address, adding that he had contacted Local Link about the matter and said a stop would benefit the people of the area.
