Declan Ryan was playing for Clonoulty Rossmore in 1997 and hit 3-1 in the semi final against Boherlahan.
'Clonoulty shock champs in sensational finish' read the Tipperary Star newspaper headline in the October 25th 1997 edition of the paper when the westerners beat Boherlahan Dualla in the county semi final and then that November they went on to win the final 0-17 to 1-12 against Mullinahone.
17,020 people watched the mesmerising county final on a drizzly day 27 years ago and now this coming Sunday in 2024 the Dan Breen cup winners will be honoured ahead of the senior final.
This Sunday the team will line out once more on the sod however it will be an emotional occasion as one panel member will be missing from the line up.
Seamus Coffey lost his battle with illness in 2008 and his memory will will be fresh in peoples minds as they come together as part of county final day.
The jubilee celebration is part of a busy schedule in Thurles on Sunday with Cashel King Cormacs playing Carrick Swans in the first match of the day (PI hurling final) which is followed at 3.45pm by Loughmore Castleiney against Toomevara in the senior hurling final.
