The Mid Tipperary under 17 B football final between Gortnahoe Glengoole and Moyne Templetuohy came to a premature conclusion at Templemore on Sunday evening. A malfunction with the floodlights forced referee Seamus Delaney to call a halt with 12 minutes to play.
Gortnahoe Glengoole were ahead 1-5 to 0-6 at the time and were anxious to see the contest finished on the night, but, after a delay of 15 minutes, and a couple of near misses of a return of the lights, Seamus Delaney called it off, a sensible decision given that the players had been standing around in the drizzle in the dark waiting to see what was going to happen.
It was a pity that the game ended in this fashion as it was a very competitive contest between two well-matched teams and while Gortnahoe were ahead at the time, Moyne were pressing strongly in search of a winning goal.
The game will now require a re-fixture to determine a victor.
