“We won't say now that we didn't come down here to try and win the match. Of course we did,” said Tipperary manager Liam Cahill in the aftermath of Sunday-s disappointing loss in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

“Any team, I suppose, at this stage, have their sights fully fixed on the Munster Championship.

“That’s where we were at today, making sure that we were getting in that experience for three weeks’ time.

“It could be a different scenario, me standing in front of you in three weeks’ time. We hope it will be from our side, from my perspective.

“We have areas now that we know that’s going to come at us.

“We just have to get better over the next couple of weeks to fix it and see if we can turn that result here in three weeks’ time.

“This Cork team is really after building momentum after the last two years under Pat Ryan and transitioning all this underage success through.

“They look like real formidable opponents now and look like a team to go after Munster and the All-Ireland. They are not favourites to win the All-Ireland for nothing.”

“Tim O’Mahony in particular, his possession stats were very high. Too high for my liking at half-time and getting that out-ball out to the flanks to Barrett and these guys.

“Cork got massive traction off of that. Look, we didn’t counteract it obviously and it kind of opened up channels there for Cork to run through and hit us for the three goals that they did.”
Tipperary were out of contention in terms of actually winning the game at the half-time break but Cahill revealed that they changed a few things at half-time and the players responded well to the adversity.

“We went after a few areas that hurt us, trying to fix them,” he said.

“By the scoreboard, we won the second half and that was our objective to go and fix those areas.

“Really happy how we got our heads around that, we never gave up, stayed chipping at the scoreboard.

“But I suppose we didn’t create a goal chance that we needed to chip into that scoreline.

“But all in all, the league has been good to us. We’ve got great experience, you can have 20 training sessions to the benefit of what we got out there today with the experience these newer players will get from playing in a big arena like that with a big crowd and big Cork support.

“I think where we are versus where we were, we have a lot more versatility to our play.

“I think when we look out now at this current Tipperary team, while we're far from the finished article, we have a lot of players that are interchangeable.”
