The special event, attended by elected members and invited guests, recognised the remarkable progress made by the North Kilkenny sprinter over the past year.

A rising star on the Irish athletics scene, Bergin has secured national titles in the 60m, 100m and 200m, firmly establishing herself as one of the country’s most promising young athletes.

Speaking at the reception, Cathaoirleach Cllr. Mary Hilda Cavanagh praised Bergin’s dedication and rapid rise through the ranks.

“We are incredibly proud of Katie's success and hard work and the huge progress she’s made in such a short time,” she said.

Now based in Cork while pursuing her studies, Bergin continues to train alongside some of Ireland’s leading coaches and athletes.

Her impressive list of achievements, combined with her commitment, has marked her out as an athlete with major ambitions and significant potential on the national and international stage.

Kilkenny County Council extended its warm congratulations to Bergin and wished her continued success in the years ahead as she looks to build on an exceptional year on the track.
