Road conditions again sparked debate at a Tipperary County Council meeting.

Road conditions again sparked debate at a Tipperary County Council meeting.

Speaking at the Tipperary Cahir Cashel multi-district meeting, Councillor Micheal Anglim described the resurfacing work in his area as ‘questionable’. He noted that in one location, the surface broke apart within a short time, necessitating further repairs because the work did not meet required standards.

“We need to keep an eye on the companies,” he said.

"For one section, they'll need to redo the work because it didn’t last any length."

Councillor Mairin McGrath also added that contractors needed to be examined, as she was informed of a situation last week in which a bus company was not allowed to collect schoolchildren despite work not having started for the day yet.

“Last week, I was made aware of a couple of issues, one in relation to detour signage or the lack of it, and the difficulties that could have been,” she said.

“I appreciate that there will always be frustrations, but another one which never happened before is school buses in the morning not being allowed through.”

“This was at five past eight, and a school bus wasn't allowed through, and the bus company couldn't pick up the kids on the other side, which has an awful impact on those kids getting to school. It's not fair.”

“I think we need to make it clear to the contractors that, when the bus went through, the works hadn't commenced, and that we have to facilitate things like that.”

“Kids are being left stranded on the road, and that’s not good enough.”
