Tipperary TD welcomes the social housing income threshold increase
Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill has welcomed the increase in the social housing income threshold announced today.
Deputy Cahill said this is something he has raised consistently throughout his time in office and is delighted to see it happen.
“I am delighted to welcome the decision by Minister Darragh O’Brien today to increase the income threshold for qualification for social housing in Tipperary by €5,000 from January 1.
“I personally met with Minister O’Brien on this issue, and a number of other housing issues for Tipperary, last month, and I am pleased that he has taken these concerns on board,” said Mr Cahill.
Mr Cahill said will push for an increase in the First Home Scheme income limits for Tipperary from €250,000 to €300,000 and for access into the Affordable Housing Scheme.
He said he knows housing issues are important to the people of Tipperary.
“I am meeting more and more Tipperary people who are getting squeezed in the middle of earning too much to qualify for social housing supports but not enough to be able to afford full rents on the private market.
“They are being left in a position where they cannot afford rents on the private market without assistance and also have no prospect of accessing social housing. This decision today will open up housing assistance to many more Tipperary people, and it is a very positive step indeed, said Mr Cahill.
