Art exhibition at Templemore Library

Throughout the month of December, Margaret Ryan of Oakdale, Templemore will be exhibiting her artwork in Templemore Library and selling her art to fundraise for the North Tipperary Hospice Movement.

As a pensioner in her 80’s, Margaret took up a new hobby to see her through the Covid pandemic and cocooning. New to painting, she started with mindfulness colouring, followed by painting by numbers and finally painting pre-drawn canvases.

Having fundraised for the North Tipperary Hospice over many years with her beloved late husband Paddy, Margaret is selling her colourful canvases in aid of the Hospice. All are welcome to join us in Templemore Library tomorrow night (Thurs) from 6pm-8pm for a reception and fundraising evening.

Now in its second year, all Lippert employees make a small donation from their weekly wage which goes towards local and National organisations and charities.

Each employee makes a nomination and the proceeds are distributed at the end of each year. So far Lippert and its employees have contributed over €16,000 to various causes. This year is not easy for many, due to the cost of living increases and the increased cost of heating homes. SVP will bring assistance to several homes at Christmas, some of whom have not needed help until recently.

BT Harps
Great win for U-12’s
Round 4 of the Boys U-12 National Cup took place on Saturday morning last where Limerick’s Pike Rovers were the visitors to Michael Fennell Park.

On a beautiful, crisp winter's morning, conditions were ideal. Harps were on the prowl from the get-go as they pressed Pike all over the pitch.

A tidy Luke Duggan finish opened the scoring after ten minutes before a Robert Myles header doubled the advantage soon after.

There was only one team in it and a smashing Rory Ryan header from a Myles corner made it three. Myles grabbed his second just before the break as he finished a lovely Danny McGuinness through ball to the net.

BT Harps U-12 squad and management. L:R; Lenny McGuinness, Daniel Mason, Robert Myles, John Mason (at back) Pierce Deegan, Isaac Owens, Ross Dorrity, Danny McGuinness, Philly Ryan. Front. L:R; Dara Naughton, Rory Ryan, Eoin O Connell, Luke Duggan, Makenzie Quinlan.

Pike Rovers were shell-shocked but to their credit they came out fighting after the break. But Harps stood firm with some excellent defending from Ross Dorrity, Pierce Deegan, and Dara Naughton while Daniel Mason dealt with everything that came his way.

Eoin O’Connell and Luke Duggan impressed also while Isaac Owens and Makenzie Quinlan made telling contributions when introduced.

McGuinness grabbed his first with a lovely header from a Ryan free-kick and then went on to complete his hat-trick with two more, including a brilliant free-kick from outside the box.

Ryan grabbed his second with another excellent free-kick to seal a magnificent 8-2 victory and a place in the last 32. The draw will take place before Christmas with the next round taking place early in the new year.

In U16 action the boys recorded a fine 4-1 win away to Murroe in the National Trophy. Goals from Odhran Dalling, Shane Monaghan, Dayle Hogan and Ryan Loughnane capped off a fine team performance.

Goals from Maria Groome, Katie Daly, Sinead Cowan, Aisling Delaney, Caoimhe Percy and Ella O’Meara gave our U-12 girls a fine 6-0 win away to Holycross.

Our U-15 and 16 Boys went on a Jolly Boys outing on Sunday and a word of thanks to Ronnie Rusell, Jim Bob Tierney and Dean Loughnane for organising a great day for the lads.

JK Brackens GAA
Our U-17 footballers had two outings in the last week. Firstly they faced Moycarkey/Borris in the Mid Final which took place in Templetuohy on Tuesday of last week. In what turned out to be a very disappointing contest the lads went down by a single point on a 1-7 to 1-6 scoreline.

With both teams qualifying for the County Quarter-finals Brackens travelled to Cashel on Sunday last to take on a well fancied Clonmel Commercials side.

There was a massive improvement from Tuesday night's performance with Brackens attacking their southern rivals at every opportunity.

But, it was the Clonmel forwards who had that bit extra when it came to taking their chances as they ran out 2-12 to 1-10 winners at the end of a cracking contest.

Well done to all the players and management involved in what was a very long season.
Marion Purcell of Railway View claimed last Sunday night’s 50/50 Jackpot worth €352. Marion bought her winning ticket in the Malthouse.

The Senior club held their AGM in the clubhouse on Saturday night last. The club would like to welcome Cathal Scully, Cillian Roche and Eamonn Corcoran onto the committee.

Cathal comes in as Registrar, Cillian is our new Child Protection Officer while Eamonn Corcoran is the new Vice-Chairman.
The club would like to thank Tadhg Sheedy, Caitriona Maher and Seamus Delaney for all their work while serving on the committee.

Our U-21 hurlers take on Thurles Sarsfields in the Mid semi-final this weekend. No time or venue at time of going to print.

New Signage for Templemore Lanes
The Sr. Aine Historical Society are delighted to announce that they have received ten beautiful new cast iron nameplates for the old lanes of Templemore. The project was carried out in conjunction with Tipperary County Council and Templemore Thurles District.

The Society would like to particularly thank District Administrator, Sharon Scully, for all her hard work on this project.
The nameplates will be a significant addition to the town's Heritage and will generate plenty of conversation in the coming weeks.
