Clonmel Athletic Club made a special presentation to Courtney McGuire to mark her achievement of winning the National Senior Women’s Marathon title in Dublin in 2 hours 32 mins 52 secs.
She became the first club member and indeed the first county athlete to win this prestigious title. She is also the youngest winner of this title.
Frank Lynch, the club chairman, outlined her achievements and gave special mention to David Kenneally, who encouraged Courtney to take up running while she was a pupil at the Presentation Secondary School in Clonmel.
Courtney encouraged the younger club members to keep training and said that over time they would achieve their potential.
She also paid a special tribute to her coach Sean Tobin.
Nora Palazzo, on behalf of the club, presented Courtney with a beautiful piece of glass, on which was etched a photo of her crossing the finishing line at the Dublin marathon, something that Courtney will treasure for the rest of her life.
To crown a great year for Courtney, she has been selected by the Tipperary United Sports Panel as the Athletics Sports Star for the prestigious Annerville Awards for 2022. She will receive the award at the Sports Panel's annual function at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel on Saturday night January 21.
