Public Health Mid-West are concerned about flu, Covid-19 and RSV figures this Christmas
Public Health Mid-West is reporting 172 new COVID-19 cases in
According to provisional data, 42 new influenza cases and 92 new RSV cases are also reported for the period December 4-10.
The department said these are the highest levels of flu and RSV recorded in a single week since the start of flu season.
They said they are expecting a significant increase in respiratory infections following Christmas celebrations and are urging people who are eligible to get their Covid19 boosters.
Consultant in Public Health Medicine at Public Health Mid-West, Dr Marie Casey, said:
“We are seeing very high levels of respiratory viruses, including flu, COVID-19 and RSV, circulating in the community. Infection with these viruses can be serious and can also lead to bacterial infections as well.
“We are asking everyone to ensure that they are up to date with their COVID or flu vaccines. Check the HSE website for information on those vaccines and how to get them.”
Data from Public Health Mid-West shows that only 38% of over 65s in Tipperary have gotten their third Covid19 booster.
That is a drop from 75% who took up the second and 95% on the first.
In a statement issued today, Public Health Mid-West said:
“We are concerned about the low uptake of the third COVID-19 booster in over-65s, in comparison to the primary course and first booster.”
“This data means that over 60% of over-65s in our community, who are a high-risk group, are at an increased risk of serious infection and illness.”
