UPDATE: Man (70's) dies after Tipperary motorway collision

BREAKING: One dead in Tipperary motorway collision

Gardai are investigating a fatal collision in North Tipperary this afternoon in which a man in his 70's was killed and two other people were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision. 

The three car collision occurred shortly after 2pm today on the M7 near Birdhill. A man in his 70's was fatally injured in the incident. Two other people also received serious injuries in the accident and have since been taken to University Hospital Limerick.  

The southbound lanes of the motorway between junctions 26 (Nenagh) and 27 (Birdhill) have been closed and diversions have been put in place. The road is expected to remain closed to traffic overnight.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them. Anyone with information is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station (067) 50450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
