Shay Given has thanked all who offered their support following the losses of both his brother and uncle last month.

Kieran Given, Shay’s brother, passed away in Germany on December 23 while their uncle Ambrose Given died on Christmas Day.

“It’s hard to find the words to describe this week for the Given family, saying goodbye to our amazing brother who was also a friend to so many, a musician, husband, father and son,” the former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper posted on Instagram.

“Our gang will never be the same again, but we will all remember and celebrate the fun times we had and love and support his dear wife Doris and two incredible sons Joshua and Joel. This week we also said goodbye to our uncle Ambrose, another huge hole in our family. Thanks for all the love and support during this difficult time.”

Kieran, formerly of Rossgier in Lifford, died peacefully at his home in Altensteig, Germany, and is survived by his devoted wife Doris and two sons, Joshua and Joel. He will also be missed by his father Seamus, stepmother Margaret, brothers, Liam, Marcus, Shay and Paul and sisters, Michelle, Sinéad and Jacqueline.

Shay’s uncle Ambrose, late of Knockagarron, Convoy, was laid to rest following Funeral mass in St Mary’s Church, Convoy.
