Cillian Murphy has taken home the Golden Globe for Best Actor for his performance as the father of the atomic bomb in the blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer.
The Cork actor was nominated for the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category, alongside fellow Irishmen Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), with Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Leonardo DiCaprio (Killers of the Flower Moon) and Colman Domingo (Rustin) rounding out the list of nominees.
Accepting his award onstage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday night, Cillian thanked Oppenheimer's "visionary director" Christopher Nolan "for having faith in me for 20 years and six feckin' pictures".
He also thanked the film's "incredible ensemble cast", including Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jnr, Matt Damon and Gary Oldman, for "carrying me and holding me through this movie".
He also saluted his fellow category nominees, "if you're Irish or not, you're all legends, stunning work", before thanking his family.
Oppenheimer also took home awards for Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director for Nolan, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr and Best Original Score – Motion Picture for Ludwig Göransson.
Poor Things, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and produced by Irish company Element Pictures, won Best Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for lead actress Emma Stone on Sunday night.
