A man has been charged by gardai following the seizure of a large quantity of cash and drugs, including 'magic' mushrooms in Co. Westmeath.
Gardaí in Mullingar say they seized over €60,000 in cash and approximately €20,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb during a search operation on Monday afternoon.
"At approximately 5.30pm, gardaí stopped a car on the Dublin Road in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. Following a search of the vehicle, €62,000 in cash was located and seized by gardaí," said a garda spokesperson.
"Follow-up searches were conducted at two properties in County Westmeath yesterday evening. During the course of these searches, approximately €20,000 of suspected cannabis was seized as well as quantities of suspected cocaine and 'magic' mushrooms," they added.
After the car was stopped, the male occupant, who is aged in his 30s, was arrested and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in Westmeath.
He has since been charged and is due to appear before Longford District Court, later this Tuesday.
A second man, aged in his 20s, who was arrested as part of the investigation remains in custody at a garda station in Co. Westmeath.
Investigations are ongoing.
