There was an unexpected item in the bagging area at a Galway Tesco supermarket this Valentine's Day.

In an unconventional albeit romantic display captured on video, Tesco employee Michael Ward seized the perfect moment to propose to his girlfriend, Sandra Lee.

The footage shows Sandra's genuine surprise at the self-checkout counter, where Michael gracefully knelt down to pop the question.

Onlookers, including nearby shoppers, witnessed the romantic spectacle, and even Sandra's initial shock, which left her momentarily speechless.

After several suspenseful seconds, and still grappling with the reality of the proposal, Michael prompted his girlfriend in good spirits, and laughed: "She still hasn't said yes, by the way!"

Sandra, then fully aware, excitedly responded, "Yes! Of course, of course! Oh my god, oh my god!"
