Fine and penalty points for driver who attempted to 'race' unmarked garda car on M50

Gardai have highlighted the incident on social media

A motorist who tried to 'race' an unmarked garda car on one of the busiest roads in the country has been fined and will receive penalty points on his driving licence

Highlighting the incident on social media, gardaí reported that the driver of the Volkswagen Passat tried to race them while they were on patrol over the weekend on the M50 motorway. 

In a post on social media, they said that the gardaí on patrol at the time were in an unmarked car when the event occurred. 

The driver was stopped 'for their safety and that of other road users' and an on the spot fine was issued for a speeding offence.

Three penalty points will also be applied to his driving licence.
