Gardai have highlighted the detection after a vehicle was clocked travelling at 174km/h in Waterford
A motorist who was caught driving at high speed on one of the busiest roads in the country is facing a court appearance in the coming weeks, gardai have confirmed.
Highlighting the detection on social media, they say gardai in Waterford were carrying out speed checks on the N25 on Sunday afternoon when they detected a SUV travelling at 174km/h in a 100km/h zone.
While gardai have not confirmed the exact location of the detection, the N25 is the main road between Rosslare Europort in Wexford and Cork city and is used by tens of thousands of vehicles every day.
In their post, which includes a photograph of the offending vehicle, gardai say the driver of the SUV was stopped following the detection and that they now face a summons to court in the post.

The exact nature of the prosecution has not been disclosed but in the event of a court conviction, the driver could face a fine and a potential disqualification. They will also receive penalty points on their licence.
Reacting to the social media post which has been viewed thousands of times, one user on X, formerly Twitter said: "Should get prison. Will get a slap on the wrist!," while another asked: "Why was he not arrested straight away??"
