A six-year-old girl has died after she was struck by a lorry while riding her bike in Co Galway.
The collision happened at the junction of Headford Road and Sandyvale Lawn shortly after 12pm on Saturday afternoon.
The girl’s body was taken to University Hospital Galway and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The man driving the heavy good vehicle, who is aged in his 30s, was not injured.
The road was closed and a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators took place before it reopened.
Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
They are appealing for any road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam, who were travelling in the area of the Coolough Road and Headford Road junction and the entrance to Tirellan Heights and Headford Road junction in Galway city between 11.45am and 12.15pm on Saturday to make this footage available to investigating gardai.
