Eight youths arrested in stolen vehicles probe in Kilkenny

Eight youths have been arrested by gardai investigating reports of stolen vehicles which were discovered in Kilkenny.

Shortly before 6pm on Monday, gardai on patrol saw two vehicles engaged in dangerous driving.

Both vehicles were reported to have been subject to “unauthorised taking” in recent days and were under ongoing garda investigations.

Gardai said a managed containment operation was put in place during which a stinger device was deployed and the cars were brought to a halt on the N25 at Grannagh roundabout.

During the operation, one of the vehicles collided with another vehicle, not involved in their investigation. Gardai said no injuries were reported.

Eight male youths were subsequently arrested and detained at garda stations in the eastern region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

All eight were released without charge pending further investigation and files are being prepared for the Garda Youth Diversion Office.

Investigations are ongoing.
