An Irish community is in mourning following the sudden death of a young man in Australia.
James Kelly, the beloved son of Catherine and Jim Kelly of Rock Road, Armagh, died as a result of an accident in Australia on Saturday, May 17.
His death has sparked an outpouring of grief both at home and among the Irish community abroad.
A death notice from J.J McArdle & Sons Funeral Directors confirmed the heartbreaking news, describing James as the "beloved son of Catherine and Jim" and "loving brother of Natalie." He was also the cherished grandson of Tommy and the late Marie Hagan, Art and Mary Kelly.
Tributes have been pouring in from local GAA clubs, schools, and friends who knew James as a kind and caring young man.
Cuchulainn Hurling Club, where James's father Jimmy is vice-chair, said they were "immensely saddened" by the news: "It is with immense sadness that the Committee and Members of Cuchulainn Hurling Club have learned of the sudden passing of James Kelly in Australia, son of our esteemed Vice Chair and Club stalwart Jimmy.
"We wish to tender our deepest sympathies to him, his wife Catherine, daughter Natalie, and the entire Kelly and Hagan family circle. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers at this incredibly difficult time."
Armagh Harps GFC also paid tribute, writing: "Sincere condolences to the Kelly family, Cuchulainn Hurling Club and James' many friends following his sudden passing. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
A message posted online by Mount St Catherine's Primary School in Armagh read: "Bless you all and Sacred Heart of Jesus hold James in your loving arms. We are so very sorry to hear this sad news – a wonderful young man."
Other tributes spoke of fond memories from James's childhood, including one which said: "Sincere condolences to Catherine, Jim and Natalie. Fond memories of a beautiful young lad fishing, kayaking and caravaning in Portnoo. May his gentle soul rest in peace and may God grant his family the strength to get through the coming days, weeks and months ahead."
James's funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
