A young man in his late teens was struck by a car on Friday night last and has since been pronounced dead. Gardai are appealing for witnesses

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic incident which occurred at Little Island, Cork on Friday evening, 17th April 2026.

Gardaí received report a pedestrian had been struck by a car and attended at approximately 11:50pm.

The pedestrian, a male aged in his late teens was taken from the scene to Cork University Hospital.  He has since been declared deceased.

Forensic Collision investigators attended the scene of the incident and an examination took place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area between 11:00pm and midnight on Friday 17th April 2026, are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021 4558510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
The young man has since been named locally as Conor Coleman from Carrigaline, Cork who was the cherished son of Barry and Trish (née Carty), adored brother of John, loved grandson of Betty and the late Séan Coleman and Tom and Eileen Carty.

His RIP.ie tribute says he will be sadly missed by his heartbroken parents and brother, aunts and uncles (Coleman) Olive, Una and Lance, Karen and Frank , (Carty) Mary and Rob, Catherine and Maurice, Tom and Mary Rose, Carmel and the late Peter McCarthy, Pat and Kathleen, Paula and Paul, Berni and Brian, cousins, extended family and a wide circle of cherished friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff in the Intensive Care Unit at the Cork University Hospital and the compassionate and respectful Organ Transplant team.

Messages of condolences have poured in on RIP.ie from people devastated at Conor's tragic death, one person said: "We are devastated to hear of Conor’s tragic passing. Conor was a great friend to my son and his personality lit up the room, he will truly be missed, May God give you strength in this heartbreaking time. May Conor rest in peace".

Another person said: "Trish Barry and John , my heartfelt Condolences on the passing of Conor. He was an amazing friend , He lit up any room he’d walk into with his infectious laugh.

"There was Never a dull moment with Conor around. He had a heart of gold and He will be missed dearly. I will always remember the fond memories of the great weekend trips away. It was an honour to have been able to call him a friend. Rest in peace Conor".
