ALERT: Warning issued as several circulating pumps are recalled amid electrocution fears

CCPC updates list of circulating pumps subject to product safety warning

A number of circulating pumps made by a well-known brand have been recalled over fears they could lead to electrocution

According to Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), a safety issue has been identified with TUCSON-A 5m, 6m and 8m circulating pumps.

These are used in heating systems and the affected batches were manufactured between 2012 and 2016.

The recall comes after it was discovered that the mains electrical coupling to the pump can be connected in reverse. This can pose a “serious risk” of electrocution, the CCPC’s statement read.

The brand name is TUCSON-A and the affected circulating pumps are the 5m, 6m and 8m. They can be identified by the serial number (S/N) on the label affixed to the pump.

If the serial number on your pump starts with 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 or 2016, then it is affected by this recall.

Customers can also use a serial number checking tool here to check if their circulating pumps have been implicated.

An installed pump can remain in operation but must not be handled as there is a serious risk of electrocution. Consumers that have an affected model which is working properly can continue to safely use their heating systems.

If customers, installers and/or merchants think they have an affected TUCSON-A circulating pump installed in their premises, they are urged to contact the brand immediately via email at productsafety@tucsonpumps.ie or by phone on 01 842 6255.

Tucson will then arrange for the inspection of the installed affected pump as well as the installation of an updated electrical coupling and connector on the pump motor. The product replacement programme is free of charge. Installed units should only be replaced by an approved Tucson technician or Tucson service agent.

You may not realise that you have an affected pump but if you’ve had work done on your heating system or have moved house in the last 14 years, then you must to check.
