Nenagh District Court has been told that a woman who burst into a house brandishing a boxcutter was concerned for the welfare of the pet cats.

Susan Dove (44) of The Beeches, Rathmoy, Borrisoleigh came before Judge Fiona Brennan charged with trespass and having an implement capable of causing harm in a public place at Templedowney, Toomevara, on November 14, 2023.

Sergeant Regina McCarthy told the court that gardaí attended the scene on foot of the report made by the injured party.

It is alleged that the defendant burst into the injured party’s home shouting about cats and brandishing a boxcutter.

The defendant came to the home with another individual and left a short time later.

Ms Dove was arrested later in the month and when interviewed, told gardaí that she was there to make sure the cats at the address were safe.

The incident is believed to be the result of a dispute in which the defendant was told the injured party’s partner would get rid of the cats.

Judge Brennan accepted jurisdiction in the case and put it back to January for hearing.
