Jon Boutcher and Drew Harris to address organised crime event in Cavan

PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris are to address a cross-border organised crime event in Co Cavan on Wednesday.

Ireland’s Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and Stormont Justice Minister Naomi Long will also speak at the Cross Border Conference on Organised Crime.

The event is expected to discuss drug trends on the island of Ireland, organised crime and human trafficking.

It comes after several large drug seizures by gardai in recent weeks.

Crystal meth worth an estimated 32.8 million euros was seized during an operation at the port of Cork 10 days ago.

Cocaine, cannabis and herbal cannabis worth 6.4 million euro were seized at Rosslare Port in Co Wexford the next day.

A variety of drugs – cannabis, MDMA, cocaine, Ecstasy tablets and cannabis jellies – worth an estimated three million euro were seized last Friday.
