Prominent businessmen in Tipperary passed away on the same day

Gus Kearney and Michael Woodlock, two very well-known and prominent businessmen in Tipperary, both of whom lived in the Clonmel area, passed away on Thursday of last week.

In the 1970s and 1980s Gus Kearney was synonymous with engineering company MF Kents, with whom he served as chairman and chief executive, before it later changed its name to Kentz.

He had more than 50 years global experience in construction and engineering. In more recent years he was the founder and chairman of Sepam, the global engineering and full service project management firm company whose headquarters are based in Irishtown, Clonmel.

Gus Kearney passed away at his home at Glenahiry House, Knocklofty, Clonmel.

Pre-deceased by his son Andrew and brother Michael, he is survived by his wife Breda, daughter Michele, sons Pat and Gus, grandchildren Amelia, Fintan, Grace, Anna, Lucy, Gilles, Henri and Coline, sisters Catherine (Peters) and Mary (O’Brien), daughters-in-law Antonia, Audrey and Marine, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Following a private Funeral Mass, he was buried in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Clonmel.

Michael Woodlock of Rathronan, Clonmel, and late of Coleman, Fethard, passed away at Melview Nursing Home in Clonmel.

He was best known as a director of the distribution and warehousing company Flancare.

He was also involved with numerous other companies such as Woodlock Developments, Killerk Construction and Colman Bloodstock, all of which came under the umbrella of MEN Enterprises.

Requiem Mass for Michael Woodlock was celebrated in St Michael’s Church in Clerihan, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Noreen, daughter Ellen, son-in-law Dave and grandchildren Michael and Lily, extended family and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
