Tipperary boxer honoured after winning seventh Irish title in a row

Kaysie Joyce defeated Cassie May Henderson in the 70 kgs final at the National Junior Championship finals

Kaysie Joyce won an incredible seventh Irish boxing title in a row last March when she beat Cassie May Henderson in the 70 kgs final at the National Junior Championship finals.

The Clonmel boxer, nicknamed Copper, was delighted to have her hand raised in victory at the National Stadium in Dublin after she got the better of the Phoenix Amateur Boxing Club, Dublin fighter in a split decision, three-two.

The deciding factor in the contest was the very strong finish by the Clonmel girl, as she landed a beautiful right-hand, left hook combination in the final round.

She was also grateful to club coaches Keith (Bobby) Galvin and Denny Dillon for the part they played in her success.

Kaysie's exploits have earned her an Annerville award, sponsored by Bulmers, which are presented to the Tipperary amateur sports stars of the year by the Tipperary United Sports Panel.

The awards will be presented at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel next Saturday night, January 10.

Tickets for the event are available from Sports Panel treasurer Ken Conway, email conwayken@eircom.net
