Coláiste Phobal Athletics team success in Templemore

As the academic year begins to wind down for many, the athletics season geared up another level with the running of the highly competitive boys East Munster Boys Track and Field Championships in Templemore on Thursday 10th of May.

Once again, the Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré athletes acquitted themselves incredibly well. A tight knit squad of 15 athletes from the school produced astounding performances both individually and collectively.  Not all athletes were lucky enough to win but each and every member of the squad left everything they had on both track and field.  The minor 4 x 100m relay team of Kyle Bergin, Graham Dooley, Michael Fitzgerald and Ryan Moloney, in their first competitive team outing produced an amazing silver medal winning performance.  Graham Dooley also picked up a bronze medal in the minor boys’ long jump.

The junior 4 x 100m relay team of Kyle Dooley, Dayle O’Meara, Aaron Delahunty and Oisin Moloney went one better and secured gold by a considerable margin. Individual sprinting prowess was also shown by Dayle in winning bronze in the 100m and by Kyle securing gold at a canter in the 200m event.

Adam Dooley was imperious in the triple jump coming away with golds and narrowly missing out on gold in the long jump by the finest of margins.  Athletes Enda Moore, Mark Maloney, Simba Havatitye and Jamie Ryan put in hugely competitive performances in their individual events and were a credit to the school, but this was unfortunately not to be their day. Each showed enough to suggest that next season shows great promise. All medallists have now qualified to represent the school in the upcoming Munster Schools Track and Field Championships on Saturday 19th May in Castleisland, County Kerry.
