Clonmel Credit Union League Division 1
Peake Villa 0 - 0 Old Bridge
Peake Villa’s second team finished their Division One league campaign against Old Bridge on Sunday afternoon, when the teams played out an entertaining but ultimately scoreless nil all draw.
The game mattered more than that however for the home side, as it brought to an end a season in which they had suddenly last their manager Paul Twomey earlier this year, and he was fondly remembered by all who played and who attended the Tower Field at the weekend.
The game itself was played in good spirits with both teams safe in Division One, and the only thing Peake Villa had to play for was a win that would see them finish third in the league.
The first half was played at a good pace and the hosts created some half chances without converting. The Bridge had the best chance of the half but it was excellently saved by David Purcell in the Peake Villa goal.
The second half followed a similar pattern with the Thurles side in control but finding the visiting keeper in fine form, making some good saves from Scott Brennan and Paul Noonan. Peake Villa nearly won it at the very end when captain Jack Kelly rose highest from a corner kick, but his header was saved onto the crossbar, and away to safety.
