Another huge leap as Clonmel secondary school reaches All-Ireland basketball final

The CTI Clonmel basketball team who travelled to the Oblate Hall in Dublin for the All-Ireland Minor C Basketball semi-finals on Monday last. They have now qualified for the All-Ireland final.

The First Year boys Basketball team from CTI Clonmel travelled to the Oblate Hall in Dublin for the All-Ireland Minor C Basketball semi-final on Monday last, April 24. The opposition were St Joseph's from Tulla, county Clare.  

The team started strongly and built up a lead of 12 points to 5 by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter followed much the same pattern with CTI well on top and by half-time they had extended their lead to 23 points to 7.

The third and fourth quarters were tighter affairs, but CTI were still the dominant team. In the end, the final score was 51 points to 24 and the team had qualified for the All-Ireland final.  

This is a phenomenal achievement for this group of 1st year boys from both Raheen College and Gaelcholáiste Chéitinn to reach an all-Ireland final in their first year of taking part.

The squad of players is Freddie Ó Báicéir, Thomas Molloy, Joshua Ó Slataire, Jason Ryan, Daniel Mak, Gavin Ó Súilleabháin, Owen Ooi, Leon Hewitt,  Aaron de Prút, Troy Dorney, Cillian Ó Muirgheasa, Roccó Ó Cuidithe and Adam de Prút.

A huge congratulations to all the players and the coaching team of Colm Ó Conghaola and Luke Boland. 

The team coaches and the school would like to thank all the parents and siblings of the players who travelled to Dublin to support the team.

The All-Ireland will final is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 2 in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght. We wish everyone the very best of luck for the final.
