Tramore man and Faugheen 50 Supporters Club Ltd club member, Brian McCormack, on his way to winning the opening Superbike race at the 2022 Faugheen 50 Road Races
Following a directors meeting last night the sports governing body, Motorcycling Ireland, announced that they were unable to secure a meaningful insurance quote for the sport of motorcycle racing and its disciplines, which effectively ends the annual Faugheen 50 Road Races at Faugheen, Tipperary, as well as the other 110 events across the country.
The Tipperary club, in light of this news, says it has had no other option other than to cancel this year's planned road races in July, in what would have been the club's 20th anniversary road races in the village of Faugheen, just outside Carrick-on-Suir.
The Faugheen 50 Supporters Club, however, is still planning to mark such a prestigious event as its 20th anniversary on
the weekend of July 15-16, "so please stay tuned, and thank you all for your understanding and support over the last few months.
"Should the sport’s governing body secure the necessary insurance, the club intends to return and run the Faugheen 50 in 2024".
