Clonmel Credit Union League Division 1
Cullen Lattin 3 – 0 Vee Rovers
Cullen Lattin took a huge step towards joining Cashel Town in next season’s Premier League, when they shot down rivals Vee Rovers in what looked effectively like a head-to-head for the second available promotion spot from the First Division.
The home side started quickly, and had a number of efforts before Micheál Elligott finally put them in front when he headed home a cross from Mikey Stokes in the 12th minute.
They thought they had a penalty eight minutes later, when Darren McGrath went down in the box but the defender was judged to have made contact with the ball, and the claim was waved away.
Cullen Lattin finally got the second goal they craved before the break, when with six minutes left in the half, Ben Carey curled a wonderful free kick into the bottom corner, to the delight of the home crowd.
They continued pressing in the same vein in the second period, and wrapped the game up on the hour mark, when Darren McGrath finished well after being teed up by Max Reardon on the counter attack.
The closest the visitors came to getting a foothold back into the game came ten minutes from the end, when after a mix up in the Cullen Lattin box, it fell to Ben Carey to make a goal line clearance and assure his team a clean sheet along with the three precious points that may well be ones to bring top flight football next season.
