Powerstown 6 – 2 Rosegreen (game abandoned 86th minute)
Unfortunately, this was an excellent game that had to be cut short due to a serious injury with time almost up, but until that point the two sides put on a fine spectacle for the watching supporters.
It was Rosegreen Rangers who were quicker out of the blocks, scoring from a corner with only four minutes on the clock.
But a rare goal from Powerstown’s Jack Barlow levelled the game eight minutes later. Aaron Kiely played the ball across to Barlow who was just inside the box, and he found the back of the net with a clinical finish into the bottom right corner.
Just after the half hour mark, an Oisin Napier corner caused havoc in the visitors’ box, resulting in a Rosegreen Rangers’ defender turning the ball into his own net to put the hosts 2-1 ahead.
Napier was the provider for the home side’s third goal, when his ball in behind found Cathal McKeown and the striker fired to the net.
And they added a fourth goal in the half, when in time added on, a long ball from goalkeeper was glanced forwards by Gino Lonergan into the path of Cathal McKeown who once again finished superbly.
Rosegreen didn’t give up and after a sustained amount of pressure got a goal back in the 64th minute to make it 4-2.
However, the home side had the perfect response and a minute later, Cathal McKeown completed his hat-trick. Oisin Napier sprayed the ball wide to Darren Murphy, whose cross found McKeown free at the back post, and he made no mistake from six yards out.
The home side’s sixth and final goal came from Brian McKeown with 20 minutes left. He received the ball in the box with his back to goal, turned brilliantly and found the bottom left corner to make it 6-2.
Unfortunately a serious leg injury resulted in the game being abandoned four minutes from time.
