Clonmel Credit Union Premier League
Bansha Celtic 0 – 1 Tipperary Town
Bansha Celtic could have condemned Tipperary Town to relegation from the Premier League if they had taken the three points here, but instead it was a gutsy performance from the visitors that has given them another chance to beat the drop, when they won the game by a single goal.
In a cagey affair, Tipperary Town took the lead on 15 minutes when a free kick was awarded on the edge of the box, and Vinny Godfrey curled it into the roof of the net.
Bansha had a great chance to equalise shortly after that, when a cross from the right was side-footed towards goal but it struck the ‘keeper and rebounded to safety.
After that both teams slogged it out, but quality was in short supply and chances even less so, leaving the game at half-time with the visitors a goal up.
Bansha Celtic dominated most of the second period, but Tipperary Town defended manfully and kept them out time and again. They even had a great opportunity to put the game to bed when Vinny Godfrey was clean through, but he sent his shot wide.
In the end TipperaryTown didn’t need that goal, and were more than happy to hear the final whistle and to take the precious three points that keep their survival hopes alive for now.
