Five German girls had an amazing experience with Gaelic football at Tipperary club

Killenaule’s German Gaelic footballers, Maja, Beke, Malena (back row) and Mila and Sema (front row ) who loved their time playing the sport while in Killenaule as exchange students.

Killenaule ladies football training has had an international flavour since the start of the year.  German exchange students Maja, Beke, Malena, Mila and Sema have been attending school in Scoil Ruain in Killenaule and also decided to try their hand at the local sports!

The five girls have been some of the most dedicated players at the field week in week out.

Kevin Shelly, Killenaule LGFA Chairman, said:  ‘The girls have been a huge addition, bringing enthusiasm and no little skill, we are just sorry to see them head away before the championship!  Some of the girls have a real flair for the game, and they have been looking up Gaelic football teams back in Germany. It's fantastic to think their time in Killenaule will give them an ongoing connection to Ireland and Killenaule,” added Kevin

The girls returned home last week and will be a big loss to the playing group.

Mila summed up the experience for the girls ‘“We deeply enjoyed playing Gaelic Football, it was a great addition to our experience and for meeting new people and making friends. We’ll never forget our time here’.

The Killenaule Junior Team and Management made a presentation of a signed Gaelic Football to each of the girls on their last night of training, and they were wished well by all on their return home.
