Orla Hogan from Nenagh is on the Irish team that will compete in the European Transplant and Dialysis Games in Sardinia from June 17-24
Two Tipperary women will fly out to the 10th European Transplant and Dialysis Sports Championships in Sardinia this weekend to represent their country as part of the 24-strong Transplant Team Ireland.
Orla Hogan from Nenagh had a kidney transplant in 2008.
This will be her tenth time to compete in Transplant Games and this summer she will compete in the 40-49 year age category in the 5 kms Mini-Marathon; Swimming – 50m Breast Stroke; Swimming – 50m Freestyle; 10 Pin Bowling Singles and, in Track and Field, 3kms Power Walk.
Orla enjoyed great success at the European Transplant and Dialysis Sports Championships in Finland in 2016, when she won two Silver medals in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke swimming events as well as a Bronze medal in the Ball Throw event.
She also took part in the British Transplant Games and although she did not attain a podium place she put in good performances in her events.
In recognition of her success and that of her fellow Tipperary teammate Ned Crowe, they each received an Annerville Special Achievement Award for 2016 from the Tipperary United Sports Panel.
Sheila Gregan (above), who is also from Nenagh, had a kidney transplant in 2006.
Another winner of an Annerville Tipperary Sports Award, she will be competing at Transplant Games for the seventh time this summer in the 40-49 year age category in the 5kms Mini-Marathon; Swimming - 50m Free Style; Swimming - 50m Breast stroke; Swimming - 400m Freestyle and in the 20kms Cycling Road Race.
The Games will be held in Cagliari, Sardinia from June 17-24.
