Happy connections of Check my Pulse following the Listowel win.
Andy Slattery was first on the board at Listowel on Monday last where the Killenaule trainer sent out the once-raced Check My Pulse to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF 2-y-o Maiden in the hands of his nephew Ben Coen who went into the meeting in the best of form having ridden four winners in the previous week.
He made all the running on the son of Dragon Pulse, clearly appreciated the ease in the ground and despite having to cope with challenges from market leaders Mofakker and All The King's Men, he proved up to the task and scored by a length-and-a-half.
Aidan O'Brien was responsible for two winners on the day, teaming up with his son Donnacha to win the 12f handicap with the ultra-progressive Astronomer, the 2/1 favourite, and then with old ally Seamie Heffernan to land the nursery handicap with 100/30 chance Mount Tabora.
Aidan and Donnacha were winners again in the opener on Wednesday afternoon at Listowel where 1/2 favourite Japan came from off the pace to land the 7f maiden.
Nenagh trainer Ray Hackett won the concluding bumper with 40/1 outsider Nibblers Charm which dug deep to deny the Willie Mullins-trained 6/4 joint-favourite Eileen O by three-parts of a length under Eoin O’Brien.
Cahir apprentice Shane Crosse partnered the Joseph O'Brien-trained Arcturus to win the median auction maiden for the Annus Mirabilis Syndicate.
The 3/1 chance won by half-a-length. Golden trainer Fozzy Stack was on the mark with Shifted Strategy in the 8f handicap. The winner, owned by Michael Begley, was ridden by Killian Hennessy. Fethard trainer Joe Murphy landed a surprise success in the 12f maiden where 33/1 chance Vitudurum was a length and a half too good under Gary Carroll, much to the delight of the Paddy O’Brien’s Racing Syndicate.
Templemore trainer John Ryan won Charlie Chute Memorial Handicap Chase with Presenting Mahler for the second running when the 100/30 chance, ridden by Danny Mullins, scored a 21-length success on Saturday. The eight-year-old is owned by Patrick McKeon and was winning her seventh race in all.
