The late Sean Dunne, Mary Street, Templemore
Sean proudly served with the United Nations and completed tours of duty in Cyprus and Lebanon.
The death occurred on November 27 last of Sean (Seanie) Dunne, 2 Mary Street, Templemore.
Born in Barrack Street in 1941 to Michael and Ellen Dunne, the family moved to 65 Lacey Avenue where Sean and his brother Michael grew up.
He left Templemore at a young age to join the Irish Army and served in Clonmel and the Curragh Camp. He completed Border duties during the 1970’s before being transferred back to Templemore where he remained until his retirement.
He proudly served with the United Nations and completed tours of duty in Cyprus and Lebanon.
Sean loved all sports but Liverpool and Tipperary took pride of place while he also loved a flutter on the horses.
A very popular character, Seanie’s sense of humour endeared him to everybody around the town while he was also well known nationwide through his Army contacts.
A great crowd turned out to bid Sean his final farewell including many old Army comrades who travelled from near and far.
The O.N.E. of which Seanie was a proud member, provided a fitting Guard of Honour.
Many an “ice and a slice” were ordered in the Temple Bar following his burial while several renditions of You’ll Never Walk Alone were heard before the sun finally set on another great character.
While the flags may fly no longer on Mary Street, Sean’s memory and the indelible mark he left on his home town will be remembered for many a night to come.
Sean was predeceased by his brother Michael in December 2020.
We offer sympathy to his niece Michelle and her husband Paul, grand-niece Gemma and her children Aaron, Grace, Fiadh and Aoibhe.
You’ll Never Walk Alone.
