Special thanks were given to the home care team, especially Anne Kelly who went above and beyond in her care of Denis and to Dr Saqub Bukhari, his GP.

Following Denis' wishes a private cremation has taken place.

A message on behalf of Denis: "To all of those who think of me, be happy as I go out to sea. If others wonder why I'm missing, just tell them I've gone fishing," was written on RIP.ie.

Tributes have poured in for Denis on RIP.ie, with an old friend of his writing:

"So saddened by this news of my old friend of many years Denis, a wonderful awards winning short story and prose writer and former gardening columnist of "Tipperary Star" who founded Thurles writers club in 1976.  He was a great inspiration to me for which I am truly grateful. Heartfelt condolences to all the family especially to old friends brother Joe and sister Mary Daly and family."

"Rest in peace Denis. He was a very kind man and loved his garden, writing, fishing and of course his dogs. He enjoyed going to Listowel writers week and always had plenty of tales to tell about it on his return. We will miss you. Sincere sympathy to Joe and the Jordan family," another mourner said.

Another wrote: "Deepest sympathy to all who loved and mourn Denis. A lovely man whom we had the pleasure of knowing through The Source Film Club. May his gentle soul rest in peace."
