Cooleeney Farm took home a top award
A Tipperary cheese producer has won a top award for one of their cheeses at the British and Irish Cheese Awards.
Cooleeney Farm took home a silver award from the British and Irish Cheese Awards for their Gortnamona cheese.
Made from pasteurised goat’s milk, Gortnamona is described as mild and creamy with a delicate aroma of white mushroom, and it takes 8 to 10 weeks to fully mature.

Cooleeney Farm are based in Moyne, outside Thurles, and make a number of cheeses including the award-winning Gortnamona, Dunbarra, goat's cheese, and their smoky Tipperary brie.
The Tipperary cheese farm also exports a number of their cheeses to UK, Europe, the US and the Middle East.

The farm is today run by the fourth generation of the Maher family, with their pedigree Friesian dairy herd is the main enterprise and animal husbandry and breeding receive husband and wife team, Jim and Pat's careful attention.
