BREAKING: Tipperary County Council Thurles MD elects new Cathaoirleach

Cllr Peggy Ryan has been elected Cathaoirleach of the Thurles Municipal District of the Tipperary County Council.

The vote took place at this morning's meeting of the Thurles MD.

The nomination was proposed by Cllr Willie Kennedy, and seconded by Cllr Sean Ryan.

Cllr Ryan assumes the role from Cllr Michael Smith, who held the position since shortly after the local elections in May of 2024.

Cllr Smith opened the meeting by speaking of how much of an honour it was to serve in the position over the last twelve months, noting his pride in the re-opening of the Templemore Town Hall during this time, anecdotally speaking of how he remembered sitting in one of his first meetings in the building.

Cllr Eddie Moran was elected Leas Cathaoirleach, following a proposal of nomination from Cllr Micheál Lowry.

The proposal was seconded by Cllr Willie Kennedy.

Cllr Moran assumed the role from Cllr Lowry.
