Edmund Kiely celebrates his 90th birthday
Edmund Kiely, originally from Templetouhy, celebrated his 90th birthday on 28 January.
Born in 1936, he is the son of Edmund and Alice Kiely of Main St, Templetouhy, and one of nine siblings. To mark the occasion, a photograph was taken of Mr Kiely wearing his Tipperary shirt and tie while holding a commemorative plaque presented to him by his nephew, James Kiely of Thurles Library.
Mr Kiely moved to Manchester in the late 1950s in search of employment. He met and married his wife Mary there, and the couple raised three children. They now have 10 grandchildren.
He has remained a proud Tipperary man and was involved throughout his life with the Tipperary Association in Manchester, serving as chairman for several years. He is a singer and bodhrán player and passed on a love of traditional music, dance and the GAA to his family. He was particularly proud to see Tipperary win the All-Ireland last year.
