Tipperary councillor demands funding to tackle the scourge of dereliction

Tipperary Town councillor Annemarie Ryan has hit out at the level of dereliction  and has appealed for action to be taken against property owners.

"I find it very sad to see beautiful buildings being left to rot in our towns and villages.The Government need to stop fussing around the edges and work with local councils to stamp out the scourge of dereliction and vacancy. They need to properly resource councils so they can establish teams whose role is solely focused on dereliction/ vacancy and working with property owners to repurpose them," said Cllr Ryan.

Cllr Ryan said that Tipperary County Council needed to be stronger in enforcing the limited legislation, against property owners who allow their buildings to deteriorate.

Cllr Ryan said she had reported the building (pictured above) to the local authority.

"Work needs to happen to make it safe. But it really needs to be brought into use," said Cllr Ryan.
