Tuesday: Dry for most of Tuesday morning with some early sunny spells, however there'll be some rain in the southwest.

Cloud will increase from the west with outbreaks of rain extending from the southwest and west through the afternoon and early evening, with some heavy bursts.

There's the chance of a little sleet for a very short time on high ground in the north. A clearance to isolated showers will start to move into the northwest and west before nightfall.

Highest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees, coolest in the north and mildest in the southwest.

Southeasterly winds will be mostly light to moderate, occasionally fresh to strong in some coastal parts and will veer northwesterly later in the northwest and west as the rain clears.

OVERVIEW: Often turning unsettled with rain, showers and breezy or windy conditions. Some more settled weather indicated towards the end of the weekend or early next week.

Tuesday night: The rain will continue to clear eastwards early tomorrow night, with clear spells following and just a few stray showers. Cold with lowest temperatures of +1 to +3 degrees with some frost and ice possible.

Winds will fall light and variable overnight allowing some mist and fog to form.

Wednesday: The frost, ice, mist and fog will clear and it'll be dry for the morning with some bright spells for a time.

It'll turn increasingly cloudy through the morning, with rain spreading eastwards through the afternoon and evening, heavy at times. Becoming rather windy too with strengthening southerly winds and with gales near some coasts.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees.

Wednesday night: Continuing windy with widespread rain at first with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds, veering southwesterly. The rain will clear eastwards overnight and the winds will veer westerly and will tend to moderate. Later in the night though another spell of rain will start to move in from the west, with winds backing southwesterly and freshening along the west coast. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.

Thursday: A windy day with rain becoming widespread in the morning, heavy at times, clearing to sunny spells and scattered showers in the afternoon, some heavy or possibly thundery. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds, veering west to northwest later.

Friday: Some uncertainty in the details but indications are that it will become wet and windy or possibly very windy at some stage through Friday or Friday night as an area of low pressure moves in over the country. Some localised flooding is likely. Highest afternoon temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.

Saturday: A cold and rather windy day with sunny spells and scattered showers, some wintry. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty northwest winds.

Further Outlook: Current indications suggest that the showers and winds will ease through Sunday with drier days in store for early next week.
